Suspect sketch released in attack on teenage girl
The Broward Sheriff's Office is searching for a man who attempted to sexually batter a 16-year-old girl who was walking in West Park.
Police said the teen was walking home about 9:10 p.m. Oct. 20 when she was attacked. She was walking south on the east side of Southwest 48th Avenue, approaching West Hallandale Beach Boulevard, when a man grabbed her from behind, put her in a chokehold and dragged her to a warehouse nearby, police said.
The man threw the teen on the ground and hit her, and when she started to scream, he grabbed her by the hair and slammed her head on the ground, BSO said. When the girl kept screaming, the man ran away, according to investigators.
The girl told police that a few weeks before the attack, she saw the man at a convenience store. Police said the man accused the girl of owing him money for crack, but she said she doesn't use drugs and had never met the man before.
The attacker is described as a man between 20 and 30 years old with a short Afro and a beard. He was wearing a white T-shirt and black pants, police said.
Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477).
